The corn for ethanol grind rebounded 4% (4 mln bu) from last week now at 96.8 million bushels and 0.6 million bushels above the average grind needed to reach the USDA’s 5 billion bushel estimate. Ethanol stocks increased 6% from last week now at 17 million barrels vs. 16.1 million barrels previously. The 6% jump is the largest single week stocks increase since November 2012.

Informa Acreage Update

Informa pegged 2014 corn acreage at 93.3 million acres, up 1.5 million from their December estimate but 2.05 million acres below the 2013 corn acreage. Informa pegged 2014 soybean acreage at 81.26 million, down 550,000 acres from their December estimate but 4.73 million acres above the 2013 bean acreage.

The corn for ethanol grind rose slightly coming in at 98.25 million bushels this week, up 0.64 million bushels from last week and 3.1 million bushels above the average grind needed to reach the USDA’s 4.95 billion bushel estimate. Ethanol stocks increased from 15.58 to 16.14 million barrels this week.

Informa 2013 Production Update

Well followed private analyst, Informa Economics, projected the 2013 U.S. corn production at 14.162 billion bushels, 173 million bushels larger that the USDA’s December estimate. Informa pegged the U.S. corn yield at 161.6 bu/acre, 1.2 bushels higher than the December USDA estimate.
